Boost Your lawn mowing business: Google Ads Success Case Study

524 conversions for lawn mowing company

in 7 months

This Victorian lawn mowing and gardening business came to us as a brand-new Google Ads client. A newly established company with no digital marketing history, the website operated on a subscription-based platform without full ownership at the end of the contract.

There was no access to analytics tools, no conversion tracking, and no structured strategy in place. This wasn’t about optimising an existing account; it was about building the entire digital ecosystem properly from day one.

about the lawn mowing company

This mowing and gardening service operates across Melbourne, providing residential property maintenance, mowing and higher-value gardening services.

As a new business owner entering a competitive Victorian market, the objective was clear: generate consistent, quality leads quickly and build sustainable growth.

However, the website lacked key conversion optimisation elements. It lacked strong calls to action, trust signals, and service clarity. Without analytics visibility and tracking, there was no reliable way to measure performance or optimise effectively.

The problem

The business had no previous Google Ads history, no tracking infrastructure, and limited insight into user behaviour. Website UX and CRO elements were also underdeveloped.

Additionally, the VIC market proved more competitive than comparable QLD campaigns, with noticeably higher CPC.

Three significant shifts in geographical service boundaries during the management period also required ongoing structural adjustments inside the account. This meant we needed both a technical setup overhaul and a flexible strategy capable of adapting to real-world business changes.

what Bel. Digital found

  • No access to analytics tools or historical data
  • No conversion tracking in place
  • Website missing critical CRO and UX elements
  • No structured negative keyword lists
  • Undefined or shifting service boundaries
  • Brand-new Google Ads account with no optimisation history
  • Higher CPC environment compared to other states
  • No clear alignment between services and seasonal demand

our solution

We began by securing full access to analytics tools and implementing proper conversion tracking so every enquiry could be measured. From there, we worked closely with the client and their website developer to improve CRO and UX elements, refining service messaging and strengthening conversion pathways.

New Google Ads campaigns were built from scratch using careful and highly specific keyword research. Industry and campaign-level negative keyword lists were created and applied, and overseas traffic was excluded. Comprehensive campaign assets (including callouts, sitelinks, and structured snippets), were added to improve ad strength and visibility.

At the client’s request, we initially targeted all of Melbourne. After early success, geographical targeting was refined to align more closely with service capacity (as originally recommended). A suburb-specific campaign was tested but later paused due to limited conversion volume, with budget reallocated to a Performance Max campaign that delivered stronger and more consistent results.

Throughout the process, we educated the client on Google Ads and GA4 to ensure informed decision-making and long-term independence.

results

From January to July 2025, the campaigns generated the following results:

  • Clicks: 14.6K
  • Ad Spend: $36.1K
  • Conversions: 524
  • Cost Per Conversion: $68.81

Conversions began flowing from the very first week, confirming strong demand and correct targeting alignment. All these achieved in a competitive Victorian market.

We quickly identified that gardening services outperformed mowing in Victoria. Gardening commanded higher fees and maintained demand through winter, providing stronger seasonal stability for the business.

Cost per click in Victoria was significantly higher than comparable Queensland campaigns, and three major service area changes required structural adjustments during the period.

By staying agile and reallocating budget toward the strongest-performing campaigns, particularly Performance Max, the account continues to strengthen month over month.

Bel and her team are fantastic to work with, we have seen results from day 1 and Bel has provided fantastic support and advice, not only with the Google Ads, but also with strategic business decisions.  I could not recommend Bel and her team more highly.
